Modern Art Museum
Yerevan Museum of Modern Art was established in 1972. With the efforts of Henrik Igityan, who was the director of the museum for 37 years. The best Armenian artists of the 60s greatly supported H. Igityan in the creation of the museum. The works of modern Armenian artists Minas Avetisyan, Rudolph Khachatryan, Henrik Elibekyan, Hakob Hakobyan, and other popular and well-known Armenian artists and sculptors are presented in the museum. There is a shop in the museum where you can buy many works of art and catalogs.
As a specialized modern and modern art museum, this center of Armenian culture became the first in the territory of the former Soviet Union. After the opening of the museum, it immediately became a favorite place for official guests and tourists visiting Yerevan. The first exhibition consisted entirely of the works of modern Armenian artists living in Armenia in the 60s, which the latter donated to the cradle of modern art with great love.
Since during the Soviet Union period, under the monopoly of socialist realism, modern art works in all their expressions were prohibited, no financial assistance was provided by the government in the construction and furnishing of this hearth of culture. The museum was established and brought to life thanks to the donations of Armenian artists.
Over time, the museum's collection was supplemented by donations from artists of the 1980s.
